How to cook Kalettes / Flower Sprouts

Kalettes are a relatively new hybrid vegetable between kale and Brussels sprouts. They are quick and easy to prepare and so delicious!

Kalettes - Flower Sprouts

We need to talk about my latest obsession: Kalettes or also called Flower Sprouts or Kale Sprouts.

You know I LOVE Brussels sprouts, and these kalettes are a hybrid vegetable between kale and Brussels sprouts. So obviously, I love kalettes as well. They are leafier than Brussels sprouts, so they also cook faster.

They are in season from October to early April, so definitely check out farmers’ markets in that time because they might have them! Of course, this also depends a bit on the location, my farmers’ market (I’m in Austria) has them between December and February, and I buy them every time I’m there.

Flower sprouts are such a cool and relatively new vegetable. They started breeding kale and Brussels sprouts back in 1995. And over the last couple of years, kalettes have been popping up in stores and at farmers’ markets more and more.

Needless to say, they are super healthy and nutritious, especially high in Vitamins B6, C, and K. They are less bitter than kale and also milder than Brussels sprouts. I’m not the biggest fan of kale, but I LOVE these kalettes so they are the perfect way for me to get my vitamins in!
