Squid Game Dalgona Candy
Squid Game Dalgona Candy

Dalgona Candy is a Korean treat that got super popular because of the Netflix series 'Squid Game'. You ought to break off the border (by using a needle, your fingers, licking, etc.) from the shape without breaking the shape. Can you do it? It's so much fun to try!

Squid Game Dalgona Candy

I loved Netflix's Squid Game and binged it in 2 days (I am really good at binging). It reminded me a bit of Battle Royale, which I also loved.

In the third episode, the participants in the Squid Game have to scrape away the outsides of the Dalgona Honeycomb Candy without breaking the shape and it was a really intense episode.

And now this little game is trending all over social media. Of course, I had to make my own Dalgona Candy to try it out as well. I even made a video in which you can see how I did, but I am not going to spoiler anything.

Are you ready to give it a try as well? The candy is really easy to make!

How to make Squid Game's Dalgona Candy

The ingredients

You will need:

  • sugar (I am using white fine crystal sugar; brown also works)
  • baking soda (not to confuse with baking powder)

The tools

As I said, the candy is super easy to make BUT you have to work fast. Therefore I recommend gathering everything you need before you start:

  • a small pan or a pot
  • chopsticks (work best) or something to whisk
  • parchment paper or some kind of non-stick surface
  • a glass with a flat bottom or a bowl or something like that
  • a cookie cutter for the shape

The basic steps

sugar in pan
Step 1: Add sugar into a pan over medium to high heat.
melted sugar and baking soda
Step 2: Once the sugar has melted, take the pan off the heat. Add baking soda.
stirring baking soda and sugar
Step 3: Stir until well combined and slightly foamy.

Step 4: Pour the mixture onto parchment paper. (Make 2-3 blobs depending on the size you'll want to have later)
flatten dalgona candy
Step 5: Use a glass with a flat bottom to press the sugar mixture down a bit.
adding the shape
Step 6: Use a cookie cutter to press the shape into the cookie. Don't press it completely down of course.

This is the dalgona sugar cookie! Now you can try to remove the shape by breaking off the outer border. Have fun!

Of course, I had to make elephant-shaped candy! You can stick to the classic symbols (star, triangle, circle, square, umbrella) or use whatever cookie cutters you have at home.

Love it? Rate it!

I hope you enjoy this Dalgona Candy challenge as much as I did! Let me know if you give it a try and if you succeeded! :)

Notes

Tip: Gather all the ingredients, tools, and everything you need beforehand. Once the sugar is melting you have to work fast (to keep it from burning) and later when pressing the form (from hardening too quick).
