Tofu Schnitzel

This vegan Schnitzel is made with perfectly breaded tofu slices. Tofu is an excellent source of plant-based protein, so it's the perfect vegan alternative! You can serve the schnitzel with rice, potatoes, or fries.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz firm tofu cut into slices
  • 1 tablespoon plant-based oil e.g. canola oil

Egg replacement

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Tofu Breading

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon paprika powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground rosemary

Instructions

  • Cut the tofu into slices (about ⅓ inch = 1 cm).
  • Whisk together the ingredients for the egg replacement in one bowl: flour, water, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine the ingredients for the tofu breading: breadcrumbs, salt, paprika powder, and ground rosemary.
  • Bring a pan with oil to medium to high heat.
  • Dip each tofu slice first into the egg replacement, then into the breading, then place them into the pan and pan-fry them for 4-5 minutes on each side until crispy and golden.
